FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ![]() ![]() Astec Inc. of Chattanooga, TN, USA installed a packaged cement product plant at the Bonsal American site in Cincinnati, Ohio. Plant startup was in March 2009 and the new facility was in full production by April. The Astec equipment replaced the original Sakrete® equipment. The original Sakrete production lines were from 1936 and had undergone some minor changes throughout the years, but nothing significant. This new facility has greatly increased capacity for the Bonsal Cincinnati site. The original line could produce about 1000 bags per day, the Astec line averages 1000 - 1200 bags per hour (BPH). During start-up the new Bonsal facility started off running about 500 BPH and was up to full production in 3-4 weeks, averaging about 1000 - 1200 BPH depending on the product being produced. Concrete mix, sand mix and mortar mix are the core products for this facility. Doug Wickham of Bonsal says, "We chose Astec because we had a very positive experience with the Astec plant we installed at our Long Island facility a few years ago. Also, we are part of Oldcastle, which has previous experience with Astec. Astec gives us a single source responsibility for the equipment and controls, which makes startup and troubleshooting much easier. Also, on site construction time is minimal because of the modular construction of the plant."
